Apparel industry holiday during Chinese New Year

Hello, this is Tong from Okura Shoji.

The Spring Festival (Lunar New Year) holiday will begin across China from February 11, 2021. In China, as well as other Asian countries such as South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and Vietnam, the Lunar New Year celebrations are more grand than the Lunar New Year celebrations.

The impact of the Chinese New Year on the apparel industry

Chinese New Year Holidays in the Textile and Apparel Industry Usually starts two weeks before the Chinese New Year, and production in China almost stops for a month before and after the Lunar New Year. This is basically the same time as the start of "Spring Fortune" throughout China. However, due to the influence of the 2020 novel coronavirus, there is a large amount of 20SS clothing left in stock, and if you place a new order for 21SS before the Chinese New Year, you will not be able to use up the 20SS stock and the stock will only increase. There are many sewing factories that have earlier holidays this year.

On the other hand, depending on the region, many people are required to quarantine in a hotel for two weeks upon returning to their hometowns, so in normal years many people return to their hometowns, but the government is urging people to refrain from returning to their hometowns to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. Some apparel factories do not close during the Chinese New Year period. However, the delivery company will be closed during the Chinese New Year period, so we will not be able to ship the item even if we raise the price.

What is spring luck?

Every year, as the Spring Festival approaches, there is a rush in China for people working in foreign ministries to return home. Almost all means of transportation are overcrowded and overflowing with people. This kind of phenomenon is called "spring".

There is a theory that if you wear red clothes during the Chinese New Year, you will be blessed with good luck in the coming year, so many people wear red clothes or carry red accessories during the Spring Festival.

In my case, I don't wear red clothes now, but when I was a child I wore them quite a lot. My grandmother used to be a tailor, so she had me make Chinese New Year clothes every year before I was 10 years old.

This is what we call ``Tangsou'' made of silk and Chinese buttons .

Finally, congratulations.
