Founded in 1912, the company switched to linen fabrics in 1931, and is one of Japan's leading textile manufacturers, continuing to create valuable products in the Bishu tradition by passing on the low-tech techniques of its predecessors to future generations. Schonherr looms have been used since the early Showa period, but now that high-speed looms such as air jet looms are widespread, they have been discontinued and only a few are in operation, making them a legendary loom.
